What do a couple of young love bird entrepreneurs do, when a corporate monolith wants to buy their beloved coffee shop and start serving Cat Poop Coffee!?
Heather and Charles, owners of our little coffee shop, awaken from a good night's sleep but struggle to motivate until they've had their.... HOT BLACK STUFF. As they rise, window blinds are thrown open, lights are turned on, burlap bags of coffee are being dragged across the floor, action and excitement as the first moments of a day in the coffee shop unfold. A yoga student, a priest, a police officer, a few millennial coffee lovers… Each getting their fix. At the song's end, the camera settles on Rick Richards setting up a mic stand on a small cafe stage and he preps us for the first performer of the day.
Episode 2 opens cold, with coffee poem called PENNY UNIVERSITY that is intertwined with our cafe owners panicking about how to pay the bills, on only a penny a day. Rick as MC of the open mic segues us into a fiery song I LOVE THAT BUZZ that pits Rick in debate between the merits of artisan coffee vs corporate sized coffee. Is it the hype or the quality?
The debate between serving conscious coffee, versus serving something to make a profit, rages on and we learn how our main characters relationship began through the song THE CORPORATE WALK.
The happy cafe couple are faced with a great opportunity to sell their little shop for a great profit, but there is a clause in the contract that Heather can not compromise herself to accept. The problem with the clause is based on the serving of "Cat Poop Coffee"... (Song CAT POOP PROBLEMS in progress.)
Charles has a secondary issue to deal with and that is realizing Heather has moved in with him and... SHE'S NOT PLANNIN' ON LEAVIN'.
Heather and Charles's ex-girlfriend bond over how hot espresso machines are versus how hot a man can be. AS HOT AS THIS MACHINE is the song that unites these two from opposite ends of the spectrum.
Charles conveys his frustrations with average success and sings his heart out about how to go from coffee to cash... from BLACK TO GREEN.
Heather opens the episode with her ODE TO POETRY and reveals her inner ambitions to be an artist in the face of being an entrepreneur.
Charles realizes that not all of his business decisions have been smart and that letting his personal desires for love has slowed his success and progress, hence his admission WE'RE SCREWED.
Charles is ready to walk out on Heather and Rick steps in to let him know that he has a great woman in Heather and he needs to simply CUP HER AND MAKE IT RIGHT.
Charles is being courted to sign the contract and over ride Heather's concerns, as he is slowly seduced to SIGN RIGHT HERE.
