Heather and Charles, owners of our little coffee shop, awaken from a good night's sleep but struggle to motivate until they've had their.... HOT BLACK STUFF. As they rise, window blinds are thrown open, lights are turned on, burlap bags of coffee are being dragged across the floor, action and excitement as the first moments of a day in the coffee shop unfold. A yoga student, a priest, a police officer, a few millennial coffee lovers… Each getting their fix. At the song's end, the camera settles on Rick Richards setting up a mic stand on a small cafe stage and he preps us for the first performer of the day.

Episode 2 opens cold, with coffee poem called PENNY UNIVERSITY that is intertwined with our cafe owners panicking about how to pay the bills, on only a penny a day. Rick as MC of the open mic segues us into a fiery song I LOVE THAT BUZZ that pits Rick in debate between the merits of artisan coffee vs corporate sized coffee. Is it the hype or the quality?
